The Military The greatest rewards of a military career are the satisfaction that comes with performing national service and the chance to do extraordinary things, often at a quite young age. The physical and mental challenges of military duty and the camaraderie of service make for a life experience unlike that offered by any other vocation. Young people will find opportunities to receive education and training, to gain expertise in a wide variety of fields, and to gain recognition for their achievements. The disadvantages of a military career include the obvious physical and health risks that come with military service. The frequent moves and long hours demanded of service members can also put enormous stress on individuals and families. It's important to remember that military service is service. As a serviceman or servicewoman, you'll be called on to commit far more than 40 hours a week to your duties. The pay and benefits you will receive in return are decent but do not compare with what you would receive for excelling in the private sector. Back to types of employers home page. |
